Imbizo is a ten man á capella performing arts group from Bulawayo,
Zimbabwe. The group has been together since 1991. Their Imbube (á
capella) singing began when they were still in school and won them
prizes in church and youth festivals. Imbizo means, the strongest
one, the name of the strongest regiment of the last Zulu king. The
group members are all Ndebele or Zulu.
Imbizo has been described by Zimbabwe music critics
as the most talented, professional and charismatic group to come
out of Zimbabwe. Since their initial UK tour in 1999, the group
has returned for extensive performance schedules in the UK and Europe
each year to great acclaim. The group performs original material
written for them by Majahawodwa Ndlovu, a founding member of the
group.
